Squalidus argentatus (Sauvage & Dabry de Thiersant 1874)

Distinguished from its congeners by the unique combination of the following characters: dorsal fin rays 3+7, anal fin rays 3+6, pectoral fin rays 1+14; lateral-line scales 39-41, predorsal scales 12-13; body rather slender, the transverse rows of papillae on snout loosely arranged and very long barbels over 2/3 of eye diameter and body with longitudinal grayish and golden stripes; dorsal side scattered with few irregular black spots; a longitudinal row of grayish black blotches along lateral body; all fins unmarked (Ref. 57944).

目前僅發現分布於臺灣北部淡水河流域。雖為中國大陸之廣布種，但在臺灣地區分布極狹，族群量偏低。

小型魚類，數量較稀少，不具食用價值，或可當觀賞用魚。

背鰭3(不分枝軟條)+ 7(分枝軟條)；臀鰭3(不分枝軟條)+ 6(分枝軟條)；胸鰭1(不分枝軟條)+ 14(分枝軟條)；腹鰭1(不分枝軟條)+ 7-9(分枝軟條)；咽齒式 5，3-3，5；側線鱗數 39-41(通常為40)；背前鱗數 12-13。體較為細長，後部側扁，腹部圓。頭中大。眼頗大；口斜裂，上頜長於下頜；口角鬚較長，可達眼徑2/3以上。吻短而鈍。體被中型圓鱗；側線完全而平直。體背側灰白色，體背部散布細小灰黑色斑，腹側灰白色至鮮黃色；體側在側線上方有一金黃色縱帶，縱帶上有灰黑色斑點散在；每個側線鱗上另具有一個短橫斑；尾鰭基部灰黑色，鰭膜無任何斑點。各鰭透明，亦無任何斑點。

初級淡水魚。喜好棲息於溪流下游地區的緩流區之深潭底部活動。屬於下層底棲魚類。主要以底棲水生昆蟲及有機碎屑為食。
