Big Eye Perch

Occurs in inshore waters of the continental shelf (Ref. 75154). Feeds mainly on shrimps and fishes (Ref. 26908).

Inhabits coral or rocky areas. Sometimes forms aggregations. Feeds on a wide variety of benthic animals. Smaller fish are mostly found inshore. Marketed mostly fresh, whole or dried-salted.

分布於印度-西太平洋區，西起波斯灣，東至菲律賓，北至台灣，南迄澳洲北部。台灣主要分布於西南部及南部等海域。

本種魚為高經濟價值的魚種，可為底拖網、延繩釣及手釣所獲，漁期全年皆有。肉質細嫩唯魚鱗很難處理，可連皮一起剝除，油炸、煮味噌或薑絲湯皆適宜。

體略高，側扁，呈長卵圓形；體最高處位於背鰭第VI棘附近。眼特大，瞳孔大半位於體中線下方。吻短。口裂大，近乎垂直；下頜突出，頜骨、鋤骨和腭骨均具齒。前鰓骨後緣及下緣具鋸齒並具有一枚後向之長強棘。頭及體部皆被有粗糙堅實不易脫落之櫛鱗；側線完全，側線鱗孔數51-67。背鰭單一，不具深缺，具硬棘X棘，軟條11-13；臀鰭與背鰭幾相對，具硬棘III，軟條12-14；背鰭後端尖型，臀鰭後端圓形；胸鰭短小；腹鰭中長，短於頭長；尾鰭彎月型凹入，上下葉均呈絲狀延長。體呈一致之粉紅色或銀白色而帶粉紅色光澤；各鰭粉紅色；腹鰭則密佈黑色斑點，與腹部相連之膜上具1-2個大黑斑。

主要棲息於四週有沙泥的礁石附近。夜行性魚類，平常躲在礁石下的洞穴中或是其他比較陰暗的地方，到了晚上再游到水層中找尋食物，主要以小魚、蝦、蟹或一些小型的頭足類，屬肉食性魚類。喜歡過群居的生活，經常會成群結隊一起出現。
