Inhabit large sand patches as well as sand and rubble areas of reef flats, and lagoon and seaward reefs to a depth of about 100 m. Forage on sand-dwelling invertebrates like polychaete worms and crustaceans. Individuals from Palau and eastern Carolines often have a yellow band immediately above the broad black band extending behind the eye (Ref. 37816). Adults solitary or in small groups. Juveniles usually in small groups, often mixed with other species in sparse seagrass habitats (Ref. 48636).

This species is distinguished by the following characters: pectoral rays 16-18 (usually 17); gill rakers 6-7 + 20-25 = 26-31; body moderately elongate, depth 3.3-3.7 in SL; head length (HL) 2.6-3.0 in SL; snout length 1.45-2.1 in HL (relatively longer with growth); barbel length 1.4-1.6 in HL; longest dorsal spine 1.15-1.75 in HL (longer with growth); penultimate dorsal soft ray about equal to last ray in young, 1.2 in last ray in large adults; pectoral fins 1.5-1.75 in HL; pelvic fins 1.35-1.6 in HL. Colour of body whitish with a dark brown to black stripe (red on fish in deeper water) from upper lip through eye to below posterior part of second dorsal fin or anteriorly on upper caudal peduncle; body above stripe yellow or yellowish gray; body below whitish, scale edges narrowly gray to brownish red; a black or red spot larger than eye at the midbase of caudal fin; some large adults with centers of scales below dark stripe pale blue, the edges yellow or with yellow spots, especially posteriorly; peritoneum dark brown (Ref. 54393).

One of the most abundant species of Parupeneus (Ref. 37816). Adults, solitary or in small groups inhabit large sand patches as well as sand and rubble areas of reef flats, and lagoon and seaward reefs to a depth of about 100 m. Juveniles usually in small groups, often mixed with other species in sparse seagrass habitats (Ref. 48636). Adults forage on sand-dwelling invertebrates like polychaete worms and crustaceans. Feeding is diurnal; from 19 adult specimens for food-habit study, the prey in order by volume in the stomachs: crabs (portunid, anomuran, xanthid, and raninid), worms (mainly polychaetes but also sipunculids and unidentified), small bivalve molluscs, brachiopods, shrimps, small gastropods, isopods, amphipods, foraminifera, and a small unidentified eel (Ref. 54393). Individuals from Palau and eastern Carolines often have a yellow band immediately above the broad black band extending behind the eye (Ref. 37816).

利用

漁期全年皆有,可利用流刺網、延繩釣等漁法捕獲,肉味鮮美,適宜紅燒或油煎。特殊之覓食行為,故常被水族館做展示用。可是本種魚曾有過體內累積熱帶魚毒,而引起食用者食物中毒的記錄,而且有毒魚無法與未累積毒性的魚由外觀區別,所以食用者請自求多福。急救時,在患者清醒下,以手觸喉頭迫使胃內容物吐出,並且保存殘渣供毒性檢定。

體延長而稍側扁,呈長紡錘形。頭稍大;口小;吻長而鈍尖;上頜達近吻部2/3處;上下頜均具單列齒,齒中大,較鈍,排列較疏;鋤骨與腭骨無齒。具頦鬚一對,末端達眼眶後緣下方,或稍後方。前鰓蓋骨後緣平滑;鰓蓋骨具二短棘;鰓膜與峽部分離;鰓耙數6-7 + 20-25。體被弱櫛鱗,易脫落,腹鰭基部具一腋鱗,眼前無鱗;側線鱗數27-28,上側線管呈樹枝狀。背鰭兩個,彼此分離;胸鰭軟條數16-18(通常為17);尾鰭叉尾形。體銀白或粉紅色,由吻部經眼睛至背鰭軟條部下方具一黑褐色縱帶;尾柄近尾鰭基部有一大圓形黑斑;背鰭棘部灰色具淺粉紅斑,軟條部與臀鰭淺紅褐色;腹鰭與尾鰭紅褐色;頦鬚淺紅褐色。

棲地

主要棲息5-100公尺深度的溫暖向海礁坡礁區、潟湖等內外側泥砂地,或滿布綠色植被的海藻床。白天時獨自或三五成群的游動在充滿多毛類、甲殼類的砂泥地上,用敏銳的觸鬚、探索躲藏在砂泥地的食物;夜晚來臨時,則在平坦的砂泥地上靜靜的獨眠。幼魚會出現在海岸邊的低窪潮池區是分布最廣泛之海緋鯉。

Identifikasie

Die vis het 'n swart streep van voor die snoet, verby die oog en al langs die sylyn tot verby die dorsale vin se basis. Daar is 'n swart vlek op die sylyn by die stertvin se basis. Die anale en bekkenvinne is gelerig en die ander vinne is meer witkleurig. In die nag lyk die vis bleekwit. Die vis word tot 53 cm groot.

Habitat

Die vis leef in seegrasbeddings of op sanderige bodems of koraalreste. Hulle kom in pare voor en is daglewend en vreet hoofsaaklik skaaldiere.

The dash-and-dot goatfish has the twin chin barbels typical of goatfishes. The body color is white with a black to dark brown stripe (dash) reaching from the upper lip through the eye and along the body, followed by a black spot (dot) at the base of the caudal fin. Above the stripe, the body has a yellowish tint. Dash-and-dot goatfish from deeper water will usually have red stripes and spots. They can reach a maximum length of 60 cm, making them the largest of the family Mullidae.

Distribution and habitat

The dash-and-dot goatfish is considered one of the most abundant species of Parupeneus, and is found in the Indian and western Pacific Oceans, the east coast of Africa, and the Gulf of Aden to Micronesia and southern Japan to Australia. It is found off reef flats and lagoons on sandy bottoms up to 100 m deep.

Diet

Dash-and-dot goatfish spend most of their time moving slowly over the bottom searching for prey with their barbels. Their diet includes worms, small crustaceans, and small fish.

Parupeneus barberinus (Lacépède, 1801) è un pesce d'acqua salmastra appartenente alla famiglia Mullidae.

Descrizione

Raggiunge i 30 cm di lunghezza in media, i 60 cm solo in soggetti maschi, in casi eccezionali.
Questa specie, la più grande del suo genere ed addirittura della famiglia delle Mullidae, presenta una caratteristica banda, marrone scuro o nera, alla base della pinna caudale. Ha dei caratteristici barbigli, del resto tipici dei Parupeneus. In generale, questo pesce è color bianco-giallastro. Se l'acqua in cui la specie vive è particolarmente profonda, può presentarsi una mutazione, piuttosto comune, con la pelle rossastra, maculata con strisce bianche[2].

Biologia

Comportamento

È prevalentemente diurno, e nuota in piccoli banchi o solitario.

Alimentazione

Si nutre di invertebrati come policheti, bivalvi e crostacei, tra cui copepodi, anfipodi (Gammaridea), isopodi, granchi (Thalamita sp.) e ostracodi[3].

Parassitismo

La specie può ospitare un parassita, il trematode Paropecoelus Pritchard, 1966.[4]

Distribuzione e habitat

È diffuso nel Golfo di Aden, nelle acque dell'Oman, del Sudafrica, del sud del Giappone, dell'Australia e della Nuova Caledonia, nonché nelle Isole Marchesi, nelle Isole Tuamotu e nella Micronesia[2]. Vive fino a 100 metri di profondità. È una specie molto comune[5].

本魚分布於印度太平洋區,包括東非亞丁灣馬爾地夫葛摩模里西斯塞席爾群島印度斯里蘭卡馬來西亞安達曼海泰國菲律賓印尼中國南海東海日本台灣越南新幾內亞所羅門群島澳洲馬里亞納群島馬紹爾群島密克羅尼西亞帛琉諾魯斐濟群島東加吉里巴斯吐瓦魯萬納杜法屬波里尼西亞墨西哥加拉巴哥群島厄瓜多等海域。

該物種的模式產地在摩鹿加群島附近。[1]

深度

水深5至100公尺。

特徵

本魚體為淡黃褐色,背部顏色較暗。體側有一條起自吻端經眼部而達第二背鰭中央下方的黑色縱帶及尾柄盡末端處有一相當於眼徑的黑斑。第二背鰭及臀鰭上有一些細黃紋,臉頰有若干黃色、藍色斑紋。尾鰭分叉,下葉略長於上葉,背鰭兩個。背鰭硬棘共8枚、軟條共9枚;臀鰭硬棘1枚、軟條7枚。側線鱗片數有28至29枚。上下頜齒只有一列,牙齒成細小的圓錐狀。體長可達60公分。

生態

本魚棲息在沙泥底上散佈一些礁石的區域或向海礁坡,白天常單獨或成一小群四處活動覓食,以躲藏在沙中的多毛類甲殼類等無脊椎動物為食。夜間則多單獨在沙上休息。大個體身上的黑縱帶及黑斑可能會變成紅色。

經濟利用

食用魚,適合煎食或紅燒,小個體可做為觀賞魚。
