全年皆產的高價值魚類，主要漁法為定置網及手釣，由於多活動於近岸岩礁區，一般漁船較少捕獲。盛產期在冬季，北部、東北部產量較多，漁獲大多直接售予海鮮店，市場較少見。肉質細緻鮮美，清蒸、煮湯最佳，亦可做成生魚片。

體呈長橢圓形，側扁，頭背平直。頭短，吻鈍，唇較薄。眼中大或小。口小，口裂近水平。上頜骨大部為眶前骨所覆蓋。頜齒前端呈門齒狀，能活動，齒端呈3尖頭；兩側齒細小，1列，呈圓錐狀；鋤骨、腭骨和舌上皆無齒。體被中大櫛鱗，不易脫落；吻部無鱗，主鰓蓋上方僅1/3覆蓋細鱗，背鰭、臀鰭具鱗鞘；側線完全，與背緣平行，側線鱗數62-66。背鰭硬棘XIV-XV(大多為XV)，軟條13-16(大多為14或15)；臀鰭硬棘III，軟條12-13(大多為13)；尾鰭末端凹入，上下葉略尖；鰓耙數32-41。體一致為灰褐色至暗褐色；主鰓蓋後緣具黑邊；胸鰭基部有暗褐色斑，除此外全身無任何色斑。
棲地

主要棲息於近、沿岸岩礁區，活動於中表層水域，約1-30公尺深處。日行性。屬於雜食性魚種，在冬季，近岸繁生的藻類是主食，其餘季節則以中小型無脊椎動物為食。11-12月為產卵期。

Girella leonina is a species of sea chubs in the family Kyphosidae,[2] native to the Western Central Pacific in areas from Hong Kong to Japan, in waters 1 to 15 meters (3-49 ft) deep, in shallow rocky reefs.[1]
Description and feeding
Girella leonina grows up to 46 centimeters in length with a blackish coloring.[1][3] Its diet is made up of plants and prymnesiophyceae.[4]
