Ocellate Cardinalfish

Description: Characterized by the following: mottled dark brown color; three dark bands radiating from eye; first dorsal fin with large ocellated black spot; greatest depth of body 2.6-2.8 in SL (Ref. 90102).

Distinct pairing during courtship and spawning (Ref. 205).

Occurs inshore (Ref. 7300). Found in shallow sheltered lagoons and harbors, hiding among rocks, rubble, or clumps of brown algae (Ref. 1602). Nocturnal species. Solitary and cryptic (Ref 90102).

分布於印度-太平洋區，西起東非至莫三比克，東至土木土群島，北至台灣、日本，南迄澳洲大堡礁及拉帕。台灣分布於南部、小琉球、北部及綠島等。

無任何經濟價值。

體長圓而側扁。頭大。眼大。前鰓蓋骨骨化不完全，外緣平滑，上主上頜骨變形。前鼻孔帶有瓣膜。側線完全，且延長到尾鰭，後部側線鱗細長；體被大櫛鱗22-24。無鋤骨齒。尾鰭圓。D. VII+I，9；A. II，8；P. 16；C. 3-4，8+7，3-4；GR. 14-15 Ll. 25；Head 2.3-2.5 in JSL；Depth 2.6-2.8；Eye 3.8-4.0 in head。第一背鰭後部有大圓斑；背鰭、臀鰭之邊緣白。從眼腹緣到前鰓蓋角有一寬暗帶；另一條狹帶則從眼後緣到側線起點。

主要棲息於近岸之珊瑚礁區或潟湖。以浮游動物或其它底棲無脊椎動物為食。
