El sabre, cinturó, peix corretja, peix sabre, serp de mar, serra o serreta[5] (Lepidopus caudatus) és una espècie de peix pertanyent a la família dels triquiúrids.[6] Es troba a l'Oceà Atlàntic oriental (des de França i la Mediterrània occidental[7][8][9][10] fins al Senegal, incloent-hi les illes Açores,[11] Madeira[12] i les Canàries, i, també, des de Namíbia[13] fins a Sud-àfrica), el sud de l'Índic, el Pacífic sud-occidental (Austràlia -des de Nova Gal·les del Sud fins al sud d'Austràlia Occidental-[14] i Nova Zelanda[15][16][17][18]) , i el Pacífic sud-oriental (Perú).[19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41][42][43][44][45][46]

Morfologia

Pot arribar a fer 210 cm de llargària màxima (normalment en fa 117) i 8.000 g de pes. Té el cos platejat amb les aletes pelvianes molt petites. Té entre 98-110 radis tous a l'aleta dorsal i dues espines i 59-66 radis tous a l'anal; i 105-114 vèrtebres.[20][47][13][37]

Ecologia

És un peix marí, bentopelàgic i oceanòdrom[48] que viu entre 42 i 620 m de fondària (normalment, entre 100 i 300) sobre fons fangosos i sorrencs de la plataforma continental i del talús continental superior.[20][49][50] Les larves[51] i els ous són pelàgics.[52][53][54] Menja crustacis i calamars i peixos petits.[55] És depredat per Merluccius capensis (a Sud-àfrica),[56] Merluccius paradoxus (Namíbia), Pterogymnus laniarius (Sud-àfrica),[57] el sorell blancal (Trachurus mediterraneus),[58] el congre (Conger conger) (illes Açores), la llampuga (Coryphaena hippurus) (Espanya),[59] Macruronus novaezelandiae (Austràlia),[60] els lluços (Merluccius merluccius) (Portugal), Merluccius senegalensis (Senegal), el peix espasa (Xiphias gladius),[61] l'ós marí afroaustralià (Arctocephalus pusillus sbsp. pusillus) (Sud-àfrica),[62] la clavellada (Raja clavata), Raja wallacei, el peix martell (Sphyrna zygaena) (Sud-àfrica),[63] l'agullat (Squalus acanthias), Squalus megalops i el caçó (Galeorhinus galeus) -illes Açores-.[64][65][66][67][68][69] És inofensiu per als humans.[20]
