Identified by the tall first dorsal fin that is white in males (Ref. 48636). Large individuals may have conspicuous dark spot on upper middle of second dorsal fin connected to a band extending down the sides as well as about 5 darker bars on body and red snout and lower head (Ref. 37816).

Adults are found in various reef habitats, but often on sponges or reef outcrops (Ref. 48636). Also found in intertidal pools (Ref. 13227) and on corals and rocks (Ref. 37816). They feed on zooplankton (Ref. 48636). Eggs are hemispherical and covered with numerous sticky threads that anchor them in the algae on the nesting sites (Ref. 240). Larvae are planktonic which occur primarily in shallow, nearshore waters (Ref. 94114). The most common and most widely distributed among Enneapterygius species (Ref. 90102). Minimum depth reported from Ref. 13227.

描述

體形小,圓柱狀。上頜向後延伸至瞳孔前緣下方;雄魚吻部長於雌魚;齒小,上下頜具椎形齒;鋤骨及腭骨前端具齒群。眼眶上緣觸角細長,呈葉狀。鼻瓣膜為葉狀。後顳骨枝呈”U”形,具5前分枝。頤部感覺孔 2-4 + 2 + 2-4。頭部、胸部及胸鰭基部無鱗。體櫛鱗,尾柄圓鱗。側線不連續,分為前後二段,前段側線為孔鱗7-13個,孔鱗側線從胸鰭基後方即稍下降,末端位於第二背鰭第八至第九硬棘下方;後段側線具2列缺刻鱗18-25個,末端止於尾柄。側線上鱗列 3-4 + 1 + 3-5。D. III+XI-XIII+7-10; A. I+15-20; P. ii-iii + 5-7 + vi-viii (13-18);L.l. 7-13 + 18-25。背鰭低矮,分成三枚,但長度超過第二背鰭第一至第二軟條;臀鰭起始於側線孔鱗列末端下方;胸鰭末端達第六至第八臀鰭鰭膜。本種體色多變,通常頭下半部至吻端紅色,體綠色,體側具暗色不規則斑點延伸至腹側,第二背鰭通常具1黑斑,臀鰭具1列黑斑,雌雄之間體色無明顯差異。(李承運、林沛立2012/11編寫)

Hàbitat

És un peix marí de clima tropical i associat als esculls de corall que viu fins als 32 m de fondària.[4][7]

Distribució geogràfica

Es troba des del Mar Roig i l'Àfrica Oriental[8][9] fins a les Filipines, Taiwan,[10] Papua Nova Guinea,[11] Austràlia,[12] Nova Caledònia,[13] Vanuatu, Fiji, Salomó i la Samoa Nord-americana.[4][14][15][16][17][18]

Enneapterygius tutuilae, known commonly as the high-hat triplefin or rosy cheek threefin, is a species of triplefin blenny in the genus Enneapterygius.[2] It was described by David Starr Jordan and Alvin Seale in 1906.[3] This species occurs from the eastern Indian Ocean around the Cocos (Keeling) Islands east to French Polynesia.[1] Its specific name refers to the Samoan island of Tutuila where the type was collected.[4]

Se encuentra desde el Mar Rojo y el África Oriental Nueva Caledonia Papúa Nueva Guinea Australia , Nueva Caledonia , Vanuatu, Fiyi, las Islas Salomón y Samoa.
