Found in various coral reef habitats from estuaries to outer reef lagoons to about 20 m depth, but usually more common on shallow reef flat at the 6 m mark (Ref. 9710, 48636). Cryptic usually on corals and sponges of isolated outcrops (Ref. 90102). Oviparous. Eggs are demersal and adhesive (Ref. 205), and are attached to the substrate via a filamentous, adhesive pad or pedestal (Ref. 94114). Larvae are planktonic, often found in shallow, coastal waters (Ref. 94114).

3-4。背鰭無缺刻,背鰭、臀鰭最後軟條與尾柄以鰭膜相連;尾鰭鰭條均不分支。頭部、體側、背鰭和臀鰭為黑褐色至黑色;尾柄及尾鰭為淺灰色,活魚時為橙黃色;體側中央上有小白點;眼眶後緣至上頜有淡色斜帶。
棲地

多樣化的棲息地,由河口域至深度約在3-25公尺的珊瑚礁或岩礁區皆可見其蹤影,一般較常見其於淺水域之礁區上。日行性,白天於岩礁或珊瑚礁上的縫隙或小洞穴間到處活動覓食,以梳子狀的牙齒刮取死珊瑚及礁石表面的藻類為食物;平常停棲在岩礁表面上,以一游一停的方式生活,生性膽小,不易與人親近。

Ecsenius namiyei, commonly called black comb-tooth blenny or Namiye's coralblenny, is a species of marine fish in the family Blenniidae. The specific name honours the Japanese zoologist and museum curator Motoyoshi Namiye (1854-1915).
The black comb-tooth is widespread throughout the tropical waters of the western Pacific Ocean from the Philippines to Solomon Islands.
It grows to a size of 11 cm in length.
It occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade.
