Has a white mid-lateral stripe from the upper pectoral base to the tail. Males have narrow diagonal lines on the cheek. (Ref. 37816). Fine spotting over the back (Ref. 48636). Scales on back above white stripe with dark edges, many with outer half dark brown. An orange-yellow bar at base of pectoral fins (Ref 42740).

體延長,近似圓柱狀,尾部略側扁;頭稍小而似尖錐形。吻尖而平扁。眼中大,上側位,稍突出於頭背緣。口中大,略傾斜;上頜略短於下頜;頜齒呈絨毛狀齒帶,外側列較大,下頜前端具犬齒6枚;鋤骨具齒,腭骨無齒。體被細鱗,側線簡單而完全;側線鱗數59-65。背鰭連續,硬棘部與軟條部間具深缺刻,具硬棘V,軟條22;臀鰭硬棘I,軟條18;胸鰭軟條15-6;尾鰭截形。體側由胸鰭腋部經尾鰭基部達尾鰭後端有一白色帶,而被另9條紅褐色橫帶中斷;頰部具10-11條窄斜紋;頭部眼後方具7-10斑點;背鰭軟條部具3縱列黑點;體背鱗片緣黑色;臀鰭中央具一列斑點;尾鰭中央軟條具黑點;胸鰭基底具一條橘黃色的橫帶.
棲地

主要棲息於潟湖與海灣內,水淺且有遮蔽礁區附近的沙地。以魚類及底棲甲殼類動物為食物。
