Blue Damsel

Description: Variable from metallic green to light blue. A small and usually distinct greenish 'ear' spot. Tail yellowish, especially in young (Ref. 48636). Head with vermiculations blue. Body depth 2.4-2.6 in SL (Ref. 90102).

Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205).

Adults inhabit sandy areas of lagoon reefs, around isolated patch reefs, coral heads, or rubble. Usually in groups (Ref. 4391, 48636). Commonly found around jetty structures (Ref. 48636). Feed on zooplankton and filamentous algae (Ref. 7247). Diurnal species (Ref. 54980; 113699).

分布於印度-太平洋區，由東非到土木土群島，北至台灣，南至羅得豪島。台灣發現於南部。

本身體色豔麗，是受歡迎之水族觀賞魚。

體呈長橢圓形而側扁，標準體長為體高之2.4-2.6倍。吻短而鈍圓。口中型；頜齒兩列，小而呈圓錐狀。眶下骨裸出，下緣具鋸齒，眶前骨與眶下骨間具缺刻；前鰓蓋骨後緣具鋸齒。體被櫛鱗；鼻部具鱗；側線之有孔鱗片16-17個。背鰭單一，軟條部不延長而略呈尖形，硬棘XIII，軟條12-14；臀鰭硬棘II，軟條12-14；胸鰭鰭條17；尾鰭叉形，上下葉末端呈尖狀。體色多變，由金屬綠到淺藍色；頭部具許多暗色短紋；鰓蓋上緣具一黑斑。尾鰭淡黃色，尤其是幼魚時。

主要棲息於潟湖礁的沙地，以及孤立的礁坪、珊瑚頂部或碎石的周圍，同時也普遍發現於突堤結構周圍。 通常成群。以浮游動物與絲狀藻為食。

Pomacentrus pavo, sapphire damsel, peacock damsel or blue damsel, is a damselfish from the Indo-Pacific. It occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade. It grows to a size of 8.5 cm (3.3 in) in length.
