體呈橢圓形而側扁,標準體長為體高之2.4-2.7倍。吻短而鈍圓。口中型;兩頜齒小而呈圓錐狀。體被小鱗。眶前骨無鱗,眶下骨具鱗;前鰓蓋骨後緣平滑。頰部有鱗。體被櫛鱗;側線之有孔鱗片15-18個。鰓耙數17-19。背鰭單一,軟條部不延長而呈角形,硬棘XIII,軟條12-15;臀鰭硬棘II,軟條12-15;胸鰭鰭條16-18;尾鰭叉形,上下葉末端呈尖形。頭部及體前半部為豔藍色且具亮點,向後逐漸色淡而轉為淡乳黃色;鰓蓋上緣具一小黑點。幼魚時體前後半部之色澤區分的極為明顯,成魚後色澤轉淡,有時藍色亦褪為暗灰色。

棲地
