中小型之隆頭魚，以一支釣、延繩釣或潛水鏢魚較有可能捕獲。本種類肉質鮮美為上好的食用魚，肉質帶膠，適合紅燒。全年皆有產。
描述

體長型，側扁；頭尖，吻長；背鰭前方頭部輪廓稍凸。眼大，上位。上下頜各二列齒。前鰓蓋骨緣裸露；背鰭基與臀鰭基鱗鞘發達。D.

3-6+8-10；尾鰭截平；腹鰭圓形。體紅色，腹部黃紅色；體側具許多紅色縱紋及數列暗紅或黑色斑；背鰭硬棘中央有黑斑，背鰭與側線間有數個淡色斑；各鰭均為紅黃色。
棲地

主要棲息於亞熱帶、熱帶溫暖的珊瑚礁海域，深度大約在30-60公尺之間，屬於常見的魚種。它生性非常凶猛，以小魚、小蝦、小螃蟹等為食。
