Inhabits coral and rocky reefs of coastal areas (Ref. 9806). Young fish occur in oceanic waters, at or near the surface, where it is being preyed upon by tunas and other large predators (Ref. 2850). Also found inshore, the young sometimes in estuaries (Ref. 3132). Feeds on benthic invertebrates (Ref. 9806).
