描述

體延長，側扁，呈長橢圓形。體長為體高之2.7-3.4倍；第二背鰭起點至臀鰭起點的距離之2.9-3.8倍。口小，端位。鰓裂位於眼後半部下方，且幾乎全在口裂線之下。體鱗小，菱形，其上散佈約十多根小細棘；恥骨末端具兩對不可活動之特化鱗，收縮時不達肛門；腹鰭膜不發達。
第I背鰭棘較細，位於眼後半部上方；背鰭與臀鰭前鰭條遠長於後鰭條，最長背鰭鰭條約為體長之0.15倍。體淡青灰色，體側有些褐色斑塊。背棘鰭膜黃色，各鰭鰭條均為藍綠色；胸鰭、尾鰭鰭膜白色。
棲地

成魚屬於中底層性魚類，常大量成群出現，而6公分以下的幼魚則大多在靠近海底處活動。屬雜食性魚類，以底棲動物及藻類為食。
