描述

體延長,側扁,呈長橢圓形。體長為體高之2.7-3.4倍;第二背鰭起點至臀鰭起點的距離之2.9-3.8倍。口小,端位。鰓裂位於眼後半部下方,且幾乎全在口裂線之下。體鱗小,菱形,其上散佈約十多根小細棘;恥骨末端具兩對不可活動之特化鱗,收縮時不達肛門;腹鰭膜不發達。
第I背鰭棘較細,位於眼後半部上方;背鰭與臀鰭前鰭條遠長於後鰭條,最長背鰭鰭條約為體長之0.15倍。體淡青灰色,體側有些褐色斑塊。背棘鰭膜黃色,各鰭鰭條均為藍綠色;胸鰭、尾鰭鰭膜白色。
棲地

成魚屬於中底層性魚類,常大量成群出現,而6公分以下的幼魚則大多在靠近海底處活動。屬雜食性魚類,以底棲動物及藻類為食。
