Dark Thick Rayed Sole

Greyish or brown, with 15-16 dark bars edged with black (the first 3 bars on head); caudal fin blackish with pale spots (Ref. 3200).Description: Characterized further by having a completely confluent caudal fin with dorsal and anal fins; pectoral rays branched on both eyed and blind side 11-15; smooth scales on both sides; elevated and scaleless interorbital space; thickened and prolonged first dorsal fin ray with numerous dorsal hair-like projections; ventral edge of head with fringe or cirri; greatest depth of body 2.7-3.1 in SL (Ref. 90102).

Found in coastal waters (Ref. 30573), on sand or mud bottoms to at least 100 m (Ref. 9710, 11230, 48637).

分布於印度-西太平洋區，由紅海、非洲東部至日本、台灣及澳洲等。台灣南部、西部、東北部及澎湖海域有產。

中小型魚類，通常以底拖網捕獲，數量少，不具經濟價值。

體長橢圓形，甚側扁。口歪而小，前位，兩眼均位頭之右側，兩眼相接，眼間隔處無鱗片；眼側無齒，上下頜盲側具絨毛狀細齒；腭骨無齒。前鰓蓋骨邊緣不游離；鰓膜與峽部分離。兩側皆被櫛鱗，側線被圓鱗，側線幾為直線。背鰭第1鰭條延長且粗，背鰭與臀鰭鰭條不分枝，與尾鰭相連；胸鰭不發達，鰓膜與胸鰭上半部鰭條相連，胸鰭不分支；腹鰭約對稱。眼在右側；尾鰭完全與背﹑臀鰭後部鰭條相連。眼側體淺褐色，具12對或24條橫帶，尾鰭為黑色，有白斑點。

棲息於沿岸泥沙底質海域，棲息深度在100公尺以內。以底棲性甲殼類為食。

Aesopia cornuta is a species of sole native to the Indian and western Pacific Oceans. Its common names include the unicorn sole, thickray sole, banded sole, and dark thick-rayed sole. This species grows to a standard length of 25 cm (9.8 in), and is the only known member of its genus.
