This species is distinguished by the following characters: head length 5.0-6.7, body depth 2.5-3.2 in SL; upper profile with notch anterodorsal to upper margin of upper eye; pointrf snout; pectoral-fin length of ocular side 9.7-11.7 in SL or about half of HL; teeth on the lower jaw of the blind side a narrow band; dorsal fin beginning behind posterior nostril nostrils of blind side, the first two rays detached from other rays, no rays prolonged and doral-fin pterigiophores shorter than neural spines of first four caudal vertebrae; D 99-110, A 78-88, pectoral-fin rays on ocular side 12-15, on blind-side 10-13, lateral line scales 86-100, gill rakers 3-5 + 5-9, vertebrae 10-11 + 36-38 (Ref. 126083).

分布於印度-西太平洋區，包括台灣、南中國海、巴布新幾內亞及澳洲北部。台灣主要分布於西南部海域。

較罕見之魚種，偶為底拖網捕獲。

體呈槍尖形；兩眼均在左側；頭背緣輪廓幾呈直緣，標準體長為頭長5.5-6.0倍。頭小。吻短鈍。下眼稍前於上眼，眼間隔窄，兩眼間有一狹小骨脊。口小，上頜延伸至下眼前緣，上頜較眼徑短；上下頜齒小，且僅盲側有齒，眼側不具齒；腭骨無齒。鰓膜不與峽部相連；鰓耙短小不呈鋸齒狀。體被易脫落之小圓鱗，兩側皆被圓鱗，奇鰭鰭條被鱗；眼側具側線，盲側無側線；側線鱗數97-105。背鰭前端兩鰭條呈獨立分開狀，軟條數106-111；臀鰭正常，軟條84-89；胸鰭短於頭長；左右腹鰭不對稱；尾鰭圓形，軟條數17-18。體黃褐色，具不明顯之斑紋，背鰭和臀鰭緣色暗，尾鰭緣微暗；盲側乳黃色。

主要棲息於大陸棚砂泥質的海域。肉食性魚類，主要捕食底棲性的甲殼類或是其它種類的小魚。
