Young with 2 dark blotches on body, which break up into small dark brown spots in adults; spinous dorsal fin with 1-2 round dark patches, soft part with a few comparatively broad dark stripes; upper part of pectoral fin with transverse stripes; anal and pelvic fins colorless; caudal fin with irregular spots (Ref. 4698).

- Fa 21 cm de llargària màxima (normalment, en fa 12,9) i 160 g de pes.

Menja principalment invertebrats bentònics grossos (molt rarament petits mol·luscs).[6]
Hàbitat
És un peix marí, demersal i de clima polar (-2°C-8°C; 84°N-45°N) que viu entre 12-930 m de fondària (normalment, entre 125-150).[4][7][8]
Distribució geogràfica
Es troba des de l'Àrtic fins a l'Atlàntic nord-occidental: badia d'Ungava, golf de Sant Llorenç, Groenlàndia, el mar de Kara i el sud-est del mar de Barents.[4][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23]
Longevitat

匙形冰杜父魚,為輻鰭魚綱鮋形目杜父魚亞目杜父魚科的其中一種,為溫帶海水魚,分布於加拿大聖羅倫斯灣、格陵蘭、喀拉海、巴倫支海等海域,棲息深度12-930公尺,幼魚有在身體上的2個黑色斑塊,成魚斑塊裂成深褐色的小斑點,上半部胸鰭有橫跨的斑紋;臀鰭與腹鰭鰭無色;尾鰭有不規則的斑點,背鰭硬棘8-9枚;背鰭軟條18-22枚;臀鰭軟條13-18枚,體長可達21公分,棲息在沙泥底質底層水域,以底棲性無脊椎動物為食,生活習性不明。
