Noline Scorpionfish

Lachrymal bone consisting of 2 spines over maxillary, first as a broad lobe, second as a broad spine pointing down; well marked suborbital ridge with 5 or 6 or more spines; second preopercle spine small or absent (Ref. 10482). Distinguished from other Hawaiian scorpionfishes by having only the anterior 4 or 5 tubed lateral line scales present, with the remainder of the lateral line absent; and presence of large melanophores on the caudal peduncle (Ref. 10482).

Feeds on small fishes and crustaceans.

Benthic (Ref. 58302). Feeds on small fishes and crustaceans (Ref. 5755). Female specimens (4.70-5.59 cm SL) taken from the Emperor Seamounts have mature gonads filled with relatively large eggs of several developmental stages with the most developed eggs are ca. 0.4 mm in diameter (Ref. 92340).

分布於太平洋海域：已知來自包括菲律賓，印尼，台灣，夏威夷與紐西蘭的個別海域。

小型魚類，除學術研究外，不具經濟價值。

體中長，側扁，長橢圓形。頭頗大，側扁。眼大，上側位，眼球高達頭背緣；口頗大，端位，斜裂，上頷略突出，上頷骨延伸至眼眶後緣下方。上下頷、鋤骨細齒，腭骨無細齒。鼻棘1個。淚骨下緣具2棘，外側無棘。眶下稜具5棘。眶前骨具5輻射狀感覺孔。前鰓蓋骨5-6棘；鰓蓋骨具2叉向稜棘。下鰓蓋骨及間鰓蓋骨無棘。顱骨棘與稜尖銳。側篩骨具1眼前棘。眶上稜具眼上棘與眼後棘各1個。鼓棘1個。額稜具額棘。頂骨光滑，頂稜高且尖銳，略高於眶上稜，後端具頂棘。眼後至側線前端具蝶耳棘、翼耳棘、後顳顬棘及肩胛棘；胸鰭基部上方具1脈棘。淚骨、眼前棘及眼後棘具皮瓣。鱗中大，櫛鱗。側線不完全，體前半部具4-5管狀側線鱗，後半部側線消失。背鰭起始於鰓蓋骨上棘前上方，硬棘與鰭條有鰭膜相連，硬棘部的基底長於軟條部的基底，第四硬棘最長，具硬棘 XII，軟條 9；臀鰭起始於背鰭第一軟條下方，鰭長度較背鰭軟條短，鰭條延伸稍超過背鰭基部，具硬棘 III，軟條5；胸鰭寬大，下側位，無鰭條分離，延伸至臀鰭起點，軟條17，具2不分枝，5分枝，11不分枝鰭條；腹鰭胸位，具硬棘 I，軟條5；尾鰭圓形。體紅色，背鰭第6-9硬棘具1黑斑。(李承運、林沛立2012/11編寫)

主要棲息於深水底棲環境，水深範圍68-622m。藉以守株待兔般快速捕捉過往之小魚與甲殼動物為食。
