Duckbill Grenadier

Body tapering posteriorly from the origin of the first dorsal fin. Snout moderately long and pointed. Body covered with scales with narrowly lanceolate to triangular spinules. Pyloric caeca 21 to 30. Body is grayish, fins dusky to black. Mouth cavity grayish; gill cavity blackish.

分布於西北太平洋區，包括日本南方、中國東海及臺灣東北部等。

數量不多。個體較大型，軀幹部份可食，捕獲數量甚多。漁民常於海上作業時，在漁船上充當午餐，小型個體則作為下雜魚。

體延長而側扁，尾長如帶，愈往後愈尖細。頭大；頭部黏液腔發達。吻尖突且佈滿稜鱗。鼻骨前側邊緣完全被骨支托，鼻窩被鱗，頭部稜脊發達具特化之強棘鱗，吻部腹面裸出，前鰓蓋骨腹側有鱗。發光器呈短桿狀，自肛門起點沿伸至兩腹鰭間。體被強棘鱗，棘刺硬略呈三角型，著於次生棘上，四至十列呈放射狀排列。口腔灰或黑色，鰓膜黑色，各鰭略呈暗色。

主要棲息於300-550公尺深之泥砂底質，水溫約5-7℃的水域，深海底棲性魚類。以小型之多毛類、甲殼類及明蝦為主食。
