Diagnostic Description

Head almost completely scaled except for underside of snout. Snout short, pointed, with a large conical tubular scale at its tip and smaller tubercles at its lateral angles; suborbital ridge prominent; mouth small, its rictus restricted posteriorly by lip folds. Body scales with long, appressed spinules in convergent rows, except those on nape and chest, which are arranged in divergent rows. Pyloric caeca 8 to 12. Ground color somewhat tawny; oral cavity grayish; branchial cavity blackish; orbital rims blackish; fins dusky, darker distally.
