深海魚類，不具經濟價值。

體延長而側扁。頭中等大小，口大。眼退化並隱於皮下，吻端扁平。體被圓鱗，側線鱗64-65枚。第一鰓弓鰓耙數15-17枝。背鰭位於身體中央或略靠前方。各鰭均無硬棘，胸鰭鰭條12-13根，背鰭軟條12-13，臀鰭軟條13-14。體色為深褐色至黑色，頭部顏色略深。

為棲息於水深868-1920公尺深的深海魚類，生態習性所知甚少。
