Body moderately elongate. Pseudobranch present, with 6–7 filaments; gillrakers 3 + 7 + 5 (6), total 15–16; branchiostegal rays 14. Dorsal-fin rays 14–15, behind midpoint of body, followed by a small adipose fin; pectoral finrays 11 (12); pelvic finrays 8; Anal-fin rays 28–30 (21), anal fin origin a little in advance of dorsal fin origin. Swimbladder capacious. Vertebrae 39. Photophores (adult): SO 1, ORB 1, OP 3, BR 9 (10), IV 6 + 10, VAV 5 (6), AC (19) 20, OA 13; 14–15 AC over anal fin, 3–4 between last anal and first procurrent rays; VAV 4 over anus; last OA over VAV 3; 1 supra-caudal and 2 infra-caudal glands; no glandular masses associated with SO, ORB or OA. Color of back dark, flanks silver, a distinctive dark gular pigment patch; fin rays speckled.

Gonostoma denudatum és una espècie de peix pertanyent a la família dels gonostomàtids.[4]

Descripció

  • Pot arribar a fer 14 cm de llargària màxima.
  • És fosc a la part dorsal i platejat als flancs.
  • 14-15 radis tous a l'aleta dorsal i 28-31 a l'anal.
  • Aleta dorsal adiposa.
  • Desenvolupa fotòfors en arribar als 18-35 mm de llargada.[5][6][7]

Hàbitat

És un peix marí i batipelàgic que viu entre 100 i 700 m de fondària i entre les latituds 45°N i 37°S. Els juvenils i els adults realitzen migracions verticals diàries entre 400 i 700 m durant el dia i 100-200 a la nit.[5][8]

Distribució geogràfica

Es troba a l'Atlàntic oriental (des de Portugal fins a Angola, incloent-hi les illes Açores[9] i la mar Mediterrània[10][11][12]), l'Atlàntic occidental central (20°N-5°S) i l'Àfrica Austral.[5][13][14][15][16][17][18]

Observacions

És inofensiu per als humans.[5]

Il bocca spinosa (Gonostoma denudatum) è un pesce di mare abissale della famiglia Gonostomatidae.

Distribuzione e habitat

È una specie presente nel mar Mediterraneo e nell'oceano Atlantico orientale. Si tratta di una specie abissale presente fino ad almeno 700 metri. Durante la notte compie migrazioni talvolta fino alla superficie. Ha abitudini pelagiche.

Descrizione

Il suo corpo ha un'altezza uniforme che decresce nel terzo posteriore. La bocca è molto grande e supera largamente l'occhio ed è dotata di denti aghiformi di lunghezza disuguale, alcuni così lunghi da sporgere a bocca chiusa. Le squame sono grandi e cadono facilmente. Oltre a 5 organi luminosi sul capo sono presenti due serie di fotofori allineate lungo il ventre, di cui la più ventrale si interrompe all'altezza della pinna anale. La pinna dorsale è breve, la pinna anale è inserita alla astessa altezza della dorsale ma è molto più lunga, è presente una piccola pinna adiposa. Ventrali e pettorali piccole, le prime sono inserite molto indietro Le pinne pettorali sono applicate molto in basso.

Il colore è argenteo e nero sul ventre. Raggiunge occasionalmente i 20 cm ma di solito non supera i 15.

Alimentazione

È un predatore e cattura pesci e crostacei.

Curiosità

Come molti altri pesci abissali si rinviene spiaggiato sulle spiagge dello stretto di Messina, soprattutto nei mesi invernali.
