Antillean Slickhead

Dorsal and anal fins nearly opposite each other. Lower margin of maxillary serrated, each serration with a thin triangular tooth at the tip. Prevomerine teeth deciduous. Orbit large, its diameter longer than the snout. Pectoral rays not filamentous. Attains 15 cm SL.

廣泛分布於全球溫帶至熱帶海域，臺灣則分布在東部海域。

深海魚類，不具經濟價值。

體延長而側扁。頭小。眼大，吻端尖，吻部上方平滑。上下頜骨均具1列三角錐狀齒列。體被小圓鱗，側線鱗43-48枚，側線上鱗6-7枚，側線下鱗6-7枚。第一鰓弓鰓耙數27-29枝。側線非常明顯而發達，且具特化鱗片。背鰭和臀鰭位於身體的後端靠近尾柄的位置，臀鰭基底長度等於背鰭基底，背鰭起點和臀鰭起點相同或略位於前方，各鰭均無硬棘，背鰭軟條20-22，臀鰭軟條20-22；腹鰭小，位於體中部；尾鰭深叉。體色為深褐色至黑色，頭部顏色略深。

為棲息於水深455-1466公尺深的深海魚類，生態習性所知甚少。
