Moringua edwardsi, the common spaghetti eel,[3] is an eel in the family Moringuidae (spaghetti/worm eels).[4] It was described by David Starr Jordan and Charles Harvey Bollman in 1889, originally under the genus Stilbiscus.[5] It is a subtropical, marine eel known from the western Atlantic Ocean, including Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Cuba, Dominica, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico, Montserrat, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Florida, Venezuela, the Virgin Islands, British, and the Virgin Islands of the United States.[4] Males can reach a maximum total length of 15 cm, while females can reach a maximum of 50 cm.[4] The eels feed primarily off of burrowing invertebrates.[6]

Due to its wide distribution and lack of known threats, the IUCN redlist currently lists M. edwardsi as Least Concern.[1]

Moringua edwardsi is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van spaghettialen (Moringuidae).[2] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1889 door Jordan & Bollman.

De soort staat op de Rode Lijst van de IUCN als niet bedreigd, beoordelingsjaar 2009.[1]

Szpagietka bahamska[3] (Moringua edwardsi) – gatunek morskiej ryby węgorzokształtnej z rodziny szpagietkowatych (Moringuidae). Nie ma znaczenia użytkowego.

Występuje nad piaszczystym lub mulistym dnem w płytkich zatokach, w przybrzeżnych wodach morskich i słonawych środkowej części zachodniego Atlantyku – od Bermudów, Florida Keys i Bahamów po północne krańce Ameryki Południowej[2][3][4].

Ciało szczupłe, silnie wydłużone, w przekroju cylindryczne. Osiąga przeciętnie 20–30 cm, maksymalnie 50 cm długości całkowitej[3][4]. Charakterystyczną cechą jest wystająca żuchwa. Oczy, zwłaszcza samców, bardzo małe. Linia boczna pełna, ciągnąca się do nasady ogona. Samice mają większe płetwy piersiowe[3].

Szpagietka bahamska jest związana ze środowiskiem raf. Zagrzebuje się w podłożu lub pływa szybko i zwinnie przy dnie. Żywi się bezkręgowcami pobieranymi z dna[2][3]. Miejsce rozrodu nie jest znane. Rozprzestrzenienie larw sugeruje, że tarło odbywa się w rejonie Karaibów[2].
