身體延長,具有胸鰭,後鼻孔無辦膜,尾部末端柔軟纖細,鰭條分節,尾鰭發達。全長201-402.5mm 。全長為頭長之6.68-7.81 倍,頭長與軀幹長和之2.93-3.58倍。軀幹長為頭長之1.05-1. 28 倍。頭長為吻長之3 .43-3.86 倍,眼直徑之5.07-6.5 倍,胸鰭長之2.78-3.25 倍。吻長為眼直徑之1.38-1.83倍。胸鰭長為尾鰭長之0.97-1.89 倍。尾部長為頭與軀幹長和之1.93-2.59 倍。肛門以前之側線感覺孔28-31個,背鰭起點以前4 個。吻端顯然突出,腹面有肉質稜。上唇無翻轉口唇游離緣,頭部感覺孔每側18個(3+5+6+3+1=18) 。口內齒均屬小圈錐齒;前上頜帶圓形,顯然大於鋤骨齒帶,於口閉合時幾乎全露出;鋤骨齒帶向後伸延至後鼻孔之垂直位置;上頜齒帶其前方齒約有四列,後方一列;下頜齒帶前方有齒五列,後方二列。尾部纖長向後逐漸尖細,背鰭起始於胸鰭基部略前。側線上並無連續之帶形成。福馬林液浸標本,淺褐色,側線部位微帶銀光,奇鰭具黑邊。1958年朱及鄭發表短尾型之/Rhynchoconger brachuata/為新種,係根據其特短之尾部及數目較少之脊椎骨等特徵而決定。1966年李及楊檢查3尾採於基隆之此型標本和朱及鄭之模式標本,發現該新種之模式標本其最後脊椎骨顯然膨大用以支持特長之尾鰭。/Rhynchoconger/屬之尾部纖細易受其他動物咬傷,後由於再生的關係產生尾基甚寬鰭條較長之假尾鰭。李及楊認為/Rhynchoconger brachuata/應列為本種之異名。

Rhynchoconger ectenurus, known commonly as the longnose conger in Australia,[3] is an eel in the family Congridae (conger/garden eels).[4] It was described by David Starr Jordan in Robert Earl Richardson in 1909, originally under the genus Leptocephalus.[5] It is a marine, subtropical eel which is known from the western Pacific Ocean, including northern Australia, Japan, the Korean Peninsula, and the eastern China Sea. It inhabits soft sediments on the continental shelf and slope. Males can reach a maximum total length of 65 centimetres (26 in; 2.13 ft).[4]
