Alimentació

Hàbitat

És un peix marí, associat als esculls i de clima tropical que viu entre 120 i 400 m de fondària.[5][8]

Distribució geogràfica

Es troba a l'Atlàntic occidental central: Cuba, Jamaica, Aruba, Bermuda, el Brasil, Colòmbia, Curaçao, la Guaiana Francesa, Guaiana, Puerto Rico, Surinam, Trinitat i Tobago i Veneçuela.[9][7][10][11][12][13]

Costums

És bentònic.[14]

Es comercialitza fresc i en salaó.[5]

The grey conger (Conger esculentus), also known as the Antillean conger or simply the conger eel,[2] is an eel in the family Congridae (conger/garden eels).[3] It was described by Felipe Poey in 1861.[4] It is a tropical and subtropical, marine eel which is known from the western central Atlantic Ocean, including Cuba, Jamaica, and throughout northern South America. It dwells at a depth range of 120–400 metres, and leads a benthic lifestyle, inhabiting coral reefs and rocky regions. Males can reach a maximum total length of 160 centimetres, but more commonly reach a TL of 90 centimetres.[3]

The grey conger feeds predominantly on finfish.[5] It supports a minor commercial food fish fishery, it can be consumed fresh or can be salted.[3]

De grijze kongeraal (Conger esculentus) is een straalvinnige vis die behoort tot de zeepalingen (Congridae). De vis kan een lengte bereiken van 160 cm.

Leefomgeving

De grijze kongeraal is een zoutwatervis. De vis prefereert een tropisch klimaat en leeft hoofdzakelijk in de Atlantische Oceaan. De diepteverspreiding is tot 100 m onder het wateroppervlak.

Relatie tot de mens

De grijze kongeraal is voor de visserij van beperkt commercieel belang. In de hengelsport wordt er weinig op de vis gejaagd.
