Description: Characterized by light grey overall color; body and posterior of head in densely covered with small brown spots; large black saddle on head enclosing u-shaped white marking; pair of widely spaced black saddles with white center bar on anterior body; origin of dorsal fin slightly anterior to gill opening; proposal length 4.7-6.7% of TL; prenatal length 33.6-39.1% of TL; depth of body at gill opening 1.4-1.9% of TL (Ref. 90102).

Heteroconger cobra, sometimes known as the cobra garden eel, is a species of garden eel of the family Congridae, found in the western Central Pacific from Honiara, the Solomon Islands to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

They occur in colonies, on sloping sand bottoms. They are known to be very frightened of humans. When they are spotted, these eels dart back into the holes in which they live.
