Gymnura altavela (Spiny Butterfly Ray) is a species of Myliobatiformes in the family butterfly rays. They are listed as endangered by IUCN. They are carnivores. Individuals can grow to 400 cm. Reproduction is ovoviviparous and iteroparous. They rely on pectoral fin oscillation to move around.
