Exhibit ovoviparity (aplacental viviparity), with embryos feeding initially on yolk, then receiving additional nourishment from the mother by indirect absorption of uterine fluid enriched with mucus, fat or protein through specialised structures (Ref. 50449).

Found inshore and offshore (Ref. 9909). Ovoviviparous (Ref. 50449). Biology little known (Ref. 9909). Utilized where it occurs, but details lacking (Ref. 9909).

產於臺灣北部及東北部海域。

肉質不佳，經濟價值低，但有時會被製成魚乾製品。

吻長，尖端鈍圓，側緣略為凹入；其眼眶以前之長度為噴水孔間隔之3.4倍，口前之長為口寬之3.4倍。吻背突起稜比較狹長，全長多少分為兩條，僅在吻端接近，向後端略為分岐。眼窩以前之吻長為眼徑之4.1倍，眼徑加出水孔徑約與兩出水孔間隔相等。噴水孔之外褶發育完善，內褶則小型。鼻孔中庸大，斜位，寬度為其1.5倍，或約與兩鼻孔間隔之1.3倍；其與吻側編織水平距離較鼻孔長度略小。前鼻瓣向兩鼻孔間隔區伸展至鼻孔內緣之線。口裂近於平直。第一背鰭高度約為其長度之兩倍，起點位於相當腹鰭基底之距離大於兩背鰭間隔，鰭基底長度約為兩背鰭間隔之1/3。皮膚上有小齒狀突起，但摩之平滑；背部中央線；眼眶周圍及噴水孔上方，各有一列痕跡的瘤狀突起；出水孔上方者須以放大鏡始可看到。體上部褐色，吻軟骨兩側面透明，體腹面白色，尾兩側之皮褶白色。(陳柔蓉、林沛立2012/11編寫)

The brown guitarfish (Rhinobatos schlegelii) is a species of fish in the Rhinobatidae family. It is found in western Pacific of Taiwan and the Philippines. Its natural habitats are open seas, shallow seas, coral reefs, and estuarine waters. The Taiwan guitarfish (Rhinobatos formosensis) was formerly considered a distinct species, but is now considered a junior synonym.
