Description: English: These photos of rarely seen deep-sea animals in Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary were collected in August 2011 using NOAA's 'Arc' remotely operated vehicle in waters 100 to 200 meters deep off the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. The image shows a spiny dogfish Squalis acanthias patrolling the seafloor. Research partners included NOAA's Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary (OCNMS), Southwest Fisheries Science Center (SWFSC), and Center for Coastal Environmental Health & Biomolecular Research (CCEHBR), plus academic partners from Washington State University (WSU), and crew of Oregon State University's RV Pacific Storm. The research to study deep-sea corals was funded by NOAA's Coral Reef Conservation Program. (Original source: National Ocean Service Image Gallery). Date: 13 August 2011, 03:08:54.
