A little-known deepwater dogfish found on the upper continental slopes to at least 450 m (Ref. 31367). Ovoviviparous (Ref. 50449). Probably taken in bottom trawls (Ref. 31367). Caught by demersal longline fisheries operating in deepwater areas. Utilised for its meat, fins (low value) and liver oil (very high value) (Ref.58048).

barbatus/為本種之次同物異名。此種鯊魚,身體稍呈扁平,唯有頭部沒有。眼睛大,較吻部長,嘴角有側褶及溝槽。牙齒扁平,上排齒30列,成披針形而非鋸齒狀;下排齒較大具42列,方向向外,邊緣接近水平,下排齒具小鋸齒。腹面鰓裂五個。背刺長且堅硬。第一背鰭基部較第二背鰭長,起始於胸鰭外角以上位置;第二背鰭稍小於腹鰭,起點始於腹鰭基部之後角末端。胸鰭邊緣呈流蘇狀,內緣角極延長。尾鰭下葉接近尾鰭頂端處具缺口。缺乏臀鰭。身體呈灰色,具有許多厚鱗片;身體底部漸白。體全長最大約1.5公尺。(陳柔蓉、林沛立2012/11編寫)

The dwarf gulper shark (Centrophorus atromarginatus) is a dogfish of the family Centrophoridae found in the Indo-West Pacific oceans, from the Gulf of Aden, Japan, Taiwan, and northern Papua New Guinea. As a Squaliform, Centrophorus atromarginatus has high amounts of Squalene in its liver, and it is fished for this resource. It is a deep-water fish, whose habitat is in bathydemersal waters.
