Nurse Shark

NURSE SHARK (Ginglymostoma cirratum) I was out with a friend in his boat photographing birds. He is a retired Florida Game and Fish biologist. We encountered this Nurse Shark, about 3 feet long, in shallow water in one of the shallow bays on Sanibel Island. Watched it for 5 minutes but could not get any better shots.

We never get to see these guys out in the open. Always hiding under the coral.

Found at John D. MacArthur Beach State Park

Habita en los fondos marinos, llega a medir hasta 4 m de largo y puede encontrarse en mares tropicales como los de Centro América. Su boca es mucho más pequeña que la de otros tiburones de su tamaño y se alimenta succionando moluscos y crustáceos. No es agresivo y no representa ningún peligro para el hombre, aunque si se lo provoca puede atacar.
