Spores rounded to ellipsoid in valvular view; biconvex in sutural view. Suture straight. Two polar capsules; usually pyriform. In a few species, one polar capsule degenerate or vestigial. About 450 species in fishes, mostly freshwater. Type species: Myxobolus muelleri Bütschli, 1882.
