provided by BioPedia
Spores elongate in direction perpendicular to straight suture that bisects spores; 2 polar capsules; spherical, subspherical, or elongate together in anterior of spore in plane perpendicular to suture. Trophozoites mono- to polysporous. Coelozoic in marine and freshwater fishes. Distinquishing between Ceratomyxa and Leptotheca may be difficult, and some species exhibit characteristics intermediate between the two genera. Some species of Leptotheca are similar to Sphaerospora species.
