Donax nomeado, em inglês, wedge shell[3] ou simplesmente donax -sing.[4] (do grego antigoː δόναξ - "dónax"; designando um tipo de peixe ou vegetação)[5], é um gênero de pequenos moluscos Bivalvia, marinhos[2] e litorâneos[4], da família Donacidae; classificado por Carolus Linnaeus, em 1758, em seu Systema Naturae, ao nomear sua espécie-tipoː Donax rugosus.[1] Habita costas de clima tropical e temperado da Terra, escolhendo as profundidades da zona entremarés, nas praias arenosas, como seu habitat[4][6], onde se enterra com o seu pé bem desenvolvido.[2][7] Algumas espécies são usadas para a alimentação humana, como a conquilha portuguesa e outras.[8]
