Rodzaj obejmuje gatunki występujące w Ameryce^[3].

Długość ciała 12–13 cm; masa ciała 13–28,4 g^[4].

Ammodramus: gr. αμμος ammos – piasek; -δρομος -dromos – biegacz, od τρεχω trekhō – biegać^[5].

Do rodzaju należą następujące gatunki^[6]:

Ammodramus savannarum – preriówek plamisty
Ammodramus humeralis – preriówek białobrody – takson wyodrębniony ostatnio z Myospiza^[7]^[8]
