Aborichthys waikhomi Kosygin 2012

This species can be diagnosed from all other known congeners by the combination of the following characters: 12-16 oblique black bands, narrower than interspaces at caudal peduncle; anus located closer to caudal fin base than to tip of snout; origin of dorsal fin equidistant between snout tip and base of caudal fin; lateral line incomplete, terminating before pelvic fins; caudal fin truncated with irregular black blotches; upper angle of caudal fin base with a distinct blotch; and barbels much longer than eye diameter (Ref. 95217).

Aborichthys waikhomi is a species of stone loach found in the Noa-Dihing River, upper Brahmaputra basin in the Namdapha National Park and Tiger Reserve in Arunachal Pradesh, India. This fish grows to a length of 6.8 centimetres (2.7 in) SL.

The fish is named in honor of ichthyologist Waikhom Vishwanath (b. 1954) of Manipur University, in thanks for his encouragement of the author’s work on this species.
