Okanagana fumipennis is known from Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah (U.S.A.). It has been associated with sagebrush-greasewood shrublands and juniper-sagebrush woodlands and emergence holes have been found under big sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata) and greasewood (Sarcobatus vermiculatus (Hooker)Torrey). Sanborn & Phillips (2013)also collected the species on yellow menodora (Menodora scabra Gray). It is found primarily in the southern portions of the intermountain shrub steppes.
