Hirudo medicinalis (European Medicinal Leech) is a species of segmented worms in the family Hirudinidae. They are listed as near threatened by IUCN and in cites appendix ii. They are associated with freshwater habitat. They are native to the Palearctic. They rely on dorso-ventral undulatory swimming to move around.
