Adults have a distinctive purplish or reddish chestnut brown coloration of the forewings.
Larvae have been reared on Pinus kesiya.[2]

Dioryctria castanea is een vlinder uit de familie van de snuitmotten (Pyralidae).[1] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1969 door Bradley.
