Distinguished from its congeners by the possession of the following combination of characters: highly developed pectoral fin, reaching the origin of pelvic fin; emarginate caudal fin; distal margin of dorsal fin truncate; dorsal-fin origin posterior to vertical line of pelvic fin origin; pelvic fin tip reaching beyond anus; distal margin of anal fin truncate; adipose-like fin present, along dorsal and ventral edge of caudal peduncle; dorsal fin with 8 branched rays; pectoral fin with 11 branched rays; total vertebrae 4 + 34; pigmentation degenerated; body scaleless and smooth; eyes completely degenerated; and anterior chamber of air-bladder wrapped in body capsule, posterior chamber of air-bladder well developed (Ref. 91758).
