H. schoutedeni often has a large round red spot on the dorsal surface of the foot. The tadpoles are brown with numerous thin dark stripes on the sides of the body. provided by AmphibiaWeb articles
In Garamba N. P. this species has been taken mainly in marshes, ponds, springs and marshy vegetation along small streams in the savanna area. Reported from a considerable part of R. D. Congo, but exact distribution cannot be given due to confusion with H. cinnamomeoventris.
