Limopsis scabra Thiele 1912

Description

provided by NMNH Antarctic Invertebrates

Limopsis scabra Thiele, 1912 (Figs 28, 29)

Limopsis scabra Thiele, 1912: 228, pl. 17, fig. 16; Soot-Ryen, 1951: 9; Powell, 1958: 172; Powell, 1960: 172; Egorova, 1982: 59, figs 254-256.

MATERIAL EXAMINED: NZOI Stns A449, A625; Eltanin Stns 1924, 1966, 1997, 2005.

DISTRIBUTION: Thiele described L. scabra from Gauss Stn (89°E), Powell (1958) recorded it from 49°F and 53°E in 193-300 m, and Egorova (1982) from the Davis Sea. It can now be reported from a number of stations in the Ross Sea in 344-870 m.

REMARKS: The fact that this small, distinct species has not been recorded from the rich collections from off the Antarctic Peninsula indicates that L. scabra may have the relatively restricted range that is indicated above.”
