Shrubs or trees. Leaves opposite, shortly petiolate; stipules interpetiolar, triangular. Domatia sometimes present. Inflorescence a dense branched terminal corymbose panicle. Calyx with 4-6 teeth. Corolla salver-shaped with 4-6 contorted spreading lobes. Ovary 2-locular. Style long-exserted. Fruit a capsule, splitting into 2 persistent valves. Seeds with a fimbriate wing.
