They are native to Suriname, Angola, Pernambuco, Peru, Alagoas, Puerto Rico, Sierra Leone, Mexico, Amazônia, Belize, Togo, Colombia, Mata Atlântica, The Hawaiian Islands, Maranhao, Santa Catarina, Pará, Paraná, Amapá, Rio De Janeiro, Liberia, ParaíBa, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Senegal, Sergipe, Atlantic And Gulf Coastal Plain (Agcp), Nigeria, Piauí, Benin, Bermuda, Bahia, Rio Grande Do Norte, U.S. Virgin Islands, United States, Brazil, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ecuador, French Polynesia, Polynesia, Micronesia, Côte d’Ivoire, Lesser Antilles, Middle America, SãO Paulo, Greater Antilles, Panama, Guyana, Gambia, The Contiguous United States, Espirito Santo, Florida, and Ceará. They have simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Monarch. Red Mangrove form mangrove swamps. Individuals can grow to 17 m.
