Sphenacanthid acantharea, four spicules longer and thicker; long spicules with long flat triangular latticed plaques towards their termini; plaques with 1-5 lateral apophyses cross-linked by 3-5 orthogonal bars, forming a rectangular lattice; some species flattened in the plane of the largest spicules; endoplasm with numerous symbiotic haptophytes; many small nuclei; endoplasm delimited by a thick fibrillar meshwork through which axopodia pass; myonemes short and cylindrical, not very mobile. Monotypic.
