Plants annual, 40-50 cm tall, glabrous. Stem erect or slightly curved in upper part, laxly branched, base 5-7 mm in diam., nodes swollen in lower part, with few supporting roots and many fibrous roots. Leaves alternate, petiolate, in upper part smaller, shortly petiolate or subsessile; petiole 1.5-3 cm; leaf blade oblong or ovate-elliptic, 7-12 × 3-5 cm, membranous, lateral veins 7-9 pairs, curved, base broadly cuneate or suborbicular, margin crenate-serrate, teeth mucronulate, apex caudate-acuminate. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, racemose, (4 or)5-7-flowered; peduncles 3-5 cm. Pedicels 1-1.5 cm, slender, elongate at fruiting, bracteate at base; bracts persistent, ovate-lanceolate, 2-3 mm, herbaceous, apex glandular-mucronulate. Flowers purplish, large, 3-3.5 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, broadly ovate, ca. 4 × 3 mm, 3-5-veined, apex mucronulate, abaxial midvein not thickened. Lower sepal funnelform, 2-2.5 cm, gradually narrowed into an incurved, 2-fid spur 1-4 cm; mouth subvertical, ca. 1.5 cm wide, tip acuminate. Upper petal suborbicular, 8-10 mm, apex emarginate, curved-mucronulate, abaxial midvein thickened, conspicuously carinate; lateral united petals clawed, ca. 2.3 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes obovate-oblong; distal lobes dolabriform, large, obtuse; auricle inflexed, triangular. Filaments linear, ca. 3 mm; anthers ovoid, apex obtuse. Ovary erect, fusiform. Capsule linear-fusiform, 2-2.5 cm. Fl. and fr. Aug.
