Rumex paulsenianus Rech. fil.

Perennial. Stem robust, 1-2 m high, branching usually in the upper half, branches usually fasciculate and branching again, forming a large usually dense panicle. Basal leaves oblong-ovate, about 2 times longer than broad, with cordate base, broadest in the middle or slightly below, flat, with acute apex; petiole shorter or as long as the blade; stem leaves with subcordate or broadly acuminate base, the upper ones gradually longer, narrowers, more acute and with shorter petole. Flower whorls many-flowered, usually all densely congested, rarely the lower ones remote, all without subtending leaves. Pedicels very thin, of variable length, 2-3 (-4) times longer than the valves, indistinctly articulate at about half of their length. External perianth segments ± 2 mm long, appressed to the base of the valve. Valves ± 5.5-7 mm, cordate, orbicular with broadly acutish tip, rarely slightly broader than long, slightly cordate at the base, with subentire margin or often minutely irregularly dentate towards the base, finely reticulate, grainless, sometimes with midnerve slightly incressate towards the base. Nut 3-3.5 x c.2.2 mm, broadest near the middle.
