Herbs. Stems 10-100 cm tall; branches and stem sometimes purple-red, densely retrorse pubescent or villous. Petiole 0.2-2 cm, narrowly triangular winged apically, densely pubescent; leaf blade ovate to oblong, 2-6.5 × 1-3 cm, herbaceous, adaxially dark green, puberulent, abaxially densely pubescent, glandular, base broadly cuneate, decurrent, margin crenate-serrate to coarsely serrate, apex acute. Spikes cylindric, 2.5-10.5 × to 0.9 cm in flower, terminal, pubescent; verticillasters compact; bracts linear, to 3 mm. Pedicel ca. 0.5 mm. Calyx tubular-campanulate, ca. 2 mm, densely pubescent outside, glabrous inside; teeth ca. 1/4 as long as calyx, puberulent inside; fruiting calyx to 5 mm, densely lanate, teeth recurved forward, secund. Corolla rose, ca. 2 mm, villous outside, glabrous inside; tube funnelfrom, to 1.5 mm wide at throat; upper lip entire or emarginate; middle lobe of lower lip circular; lateral lobes semicircular, entire. Nutlets dark brown, oblong-ellipsoid, sparsely hairy. Fl. and fr. Aug-Nov.
