Small to medium sized geophytic herbs. Tuber subglobose or depressed-globose. Stem abbreviated (not lianescent); higher order leaf venation reticulate; leaf not dracontioid (compare Amorphophallus & Anchomanes). Inflorescence solitary; peduncle shorter than petiole; flowers without perianth of free or fused tepals.

Sauromatum is a genus of flowering plants in the family Araceae. The genus is native to tropical Africa, tropical Asia, and the Arabian Peninsula.[1][2] Their inflorescences last for only a few hours to a day and give off an unpleasant smell. The inflorescence disperses its odor by heating up.[3]
